"In MK, you manage a hand of cards with a deckbuilding mechanic. Your hand of cards dictate what you can do during a turn. You explore the world, fight enemies in order to gains powerful cards or new capabilities, collect crystals to boost your cards. You may recruits allies to help you in your quest.
In TCoK, you manage your capabilities and you skills via XP. The skill tree is important to optimize. To gain XP you must fight creatures or do some quest.
Both have a very different feeling. For me, MK is much more complicated and take much longer to finish a game. MK need to check the rules again if you do not play so often the game.
TCoK is simpler and the deck of quest offers diversity in each games.
I would suggest to begin with TCoK. If you like it, you may try MK but the investment is not the same.
TCok is better in story telling but is more linear with creatures (you begin with level 1 then 2 then 3 etc...). MK is better if your search deeper analysis."
