I think
you'll find you'll like what we have in store. What about campaigns have you found irritating? I'd like to think we have considered some of these issues already in our design.



What we want in a campaign...



1. Levelling

-- Leveling up too quickly. You don't want to level up right away so that the rest of the game has no character improvement.

-- Leveling up too slowly. You don't get to level something per session, too much grinding.

-- Level scaling: what's the point in leveling if everything levels with you. Dungeons have a set level, Each terrain type has a level, you won't be traveling in the mountains at level 1 unless you want to get eaten by a giant.

-- We are going to make leveling feel just right by doing proper playtesting.

2. Economy

-- Broken economy, having too much gold, can make attaining new things feel cheap and unappreciated.

-- Broken economy, having too little gold can make you grind too much or worse not even having enough gold to pay for the grinding.

-- Not enough things to buy.

-- You should be able to buy stuff and there should be lots to choose from but you shouldn't be able to buy it all at once . What you decide to buy should feel like its own little brain teaser puzzle.

3. Content

--The campaign should include enough events so that it does not feel repetitious.

--The makeup of the events need to be creative and offer meaningful choices. I always described what we don't want in this way... "You're walking down a corridor and you see a big monster? What are you going to do?", "Well of course I'll kill it!", we will be doing much more than that.

-- Cool Quests - a lot of the quests will be to "Level" your character. What's a cooler reward for a quest than learning a new skill?

-- Fun Henchman you care about and would die for and even kill for.

4. Challenging

-- The gameplay needs to be challenging. There needs to be a sense of danger if you never get close to dying then you are never going to feel the thrill of triumph!

5. Replayability

-- The campaign needs to feel different enough each time you play. This is why you'll start the game with a different main quest line. This is also why we will have the community portal so that we can share these quests.

-- A henchman shouldn't always backstab you, otherwise you will just not pick up the henchman the next play through.

6. Breadth of Experience

-- To get the full D&D experience its import we include all parts of what makes a campaign of D&D exciting.

-- Start off week, grow strong

-- Start off poor, grow rich, and buy a keep.

-- Hex Crawl

-- Dungeon Crawl

-- Town based events - visiting towns and engaging in activities at them was an integral part of D&D,

-- Traveling on Mount

-- Traveling by Boat - how else are you going to be able to fight a giant sea monster?

-- Traveling by Air - Aerial combat with mounts is in the Dungeon Masters manual so we got to include it, Plus what's a cooler high level quest than going to get a griffin so you can ride it around the map?

-- Going to prison - Yep we cover this too.

7. Passage of time

-- In a Rogue's Tale time is literally money. We will have time based quests to keep the pressure on.

-- You can't just walk in a straight line, well you can but it might take you longer and be more dangerous, you have to plan your journey and make sure it will be worth the cost, to travel there. Also you need to watch the moon phases as you may be able to take a huge shortcut.

8. Dungeons

-- Rogue Dungeon is all about the dungeons.

-- There are 24 dungeons to explore, each dungeon comes with a backstory, unique boss and a unique loot.

-- Once you get in the dungeon the game will play out just like a typical game of Rogue Dungeon, except the boss will be pre-set, the dungeon may be from 1 to 5 levels deep.

-- The campaign is the glue that holds all of the dungeons together.

-- Some dungeons will be associated with quests and others you can waltz into whenever you think you got what it takes to defeat it.

9. Open world game play

-- The campaign will have the main quest, side quests, skill quests, and henchman quests.

-- But what it's going to really excel at is emergent storytelling! It's the way things go down the way you react to them which will write your Rogue's Tale! You'll tell your kids about the time you got trench foot while slogging through the swamps on quest to find a rare ingredient to save the emperor's daughter and when you were almost eaten by a giant snake, until you had to call in a favor from a Griffin that owed you a favor and came and save your butt. See none of that is in "my story", but it could be "Your Story".

10. Not static -

-- Time passes and moon events can change things.

-- Your choice can change the map and the game.

-- Try your morals and your grit. You'll be placed into situations where you may act out of character because you were so wrong. But you might have to pay for it. And while in prison the world will change, without you.

11. Well Designed and not Fiddly

-- The game has to be able to get to the table fast

-- Not having a huge footprint, the game is literally 4 sheets of paper put together plus 3 inches at the top. This is 36 decks of cards and all the counters at your reach, all ready to play.

-- When you're done, you just put the card holders back in the box.

-- Old school D&D awarded XP by getting gold, each gold was 1 XP. So there is a precedent that XP = Gold. We have just taken it all the way with XP = Luna(Gold) = Provision = Movement Token/Point = Event Frequence(1/3 of the coins has an event icon) = 1 Day(Coins are placed in the calendar/moon tray when they are taken off the mat.)



I could go on but hopefully this conveys to you that we are taking this campaign very seriously and it's going to be well executed and playtested. We have the experience and the track record to deliver! Ok, now I'm going to put together an actual game play sequence for you...

Quello che ho notato è che non si può comprare la campagna a parte se non con le due espansioni e la big box (che dovrebbe consentire un rapido salvataggio, oltre che gli stand per tutti i mazzi di carte durante il gioco, però è grande come la scatola di Trudvang Legends... A me piaceva l'idea di prendere RD per la sua scatola mignon... Oltre che per la sua natura oneshot. Però è vero che avere ANCHE una campagna di per sé non mi fa schifo come idea...

Ti capisco benissimo. Però quella mappa da esterni mi arrapa abbastanza: tu hai capito se stessa servirà solo per una campagna e che, una volta risolta, non servirà più a nulla perché oneshot?…. Oppure sarà rigiocabile?

Quel che ho capito è che come minimo sarà 2-shots perché ci sono due main questline quindi almeno due run ci sono. Poi le sidequest sono 96 mi pare, e non credo si vedranno tutte in una partita. Quello che mi perplime sono i soli 24 eventi per ciascun tipo di ambiente, temo che già alla seconda questline tu riveda più volte eventi già visti, perdendo un po' di efficacia.

Poi parlano già di mini espansioni con questline aggiuntive, e un sistema per generare nuove questline print and play.

La mia perplessità maggiore è che diventa una scatola enorme per quello che lo ritengo essere. A quel punto gioco a Story of Many... Ma anche a me chiama parecchio, quella mappa... È quello che probabilmente non è HEXploreIT per me, quindi se Weega mi spara un buon prezzo... Ci penso.

Un po' OT ma weega difficilmente ha uno sconto maggiore del 10%, ormai la convenienza nel comprare con loro non è più di tipo economico quanto piuttosto quella di avere un interlocutore italiano affidabile.

Dipende, mica vero. Cioè si, lo sconto medio è quello, ma su Tiny Epic Dungeons lo sconto è del 30%, su ICE è del 21%, sul modulo 5 di High Frontier 4 All è del 24%, su Steam Power, Storyfold:Wildwoods, Innovation Ultimate Edition e Baghdad del 20%, Parks 2nd Edition del 17%. Molti di questi non arrivano a retail, o ci arrivano ma per avere questi sconti o aspetti mesi/anni o non ci vanno proprio in sconto (o non si trovano facilmente).

Io al momento ho fatto buoni affari con Weega

Credo che la tassa di importazione imposta da Trump sia già calcolata nel costo del pledge, che quindi è maggiore di quanto avrebbe potuto essere (il produttore è statunitense). Quindi la pagano tutti, in questo caso, ma vedo già che la cosa si diffonderà.

Ed è certo che si diffonderà, se gli Americani scappano, il crowdfunding è finito!

Più lo guardo e più mi intrippa e rischio il pledge...

La modalità campagna richiede per forza tutti e tre i setting, ed è quella la parte che mi attira di più. Ma diventa un gioco da 200€ e passa. Praticamente come The Elder Scrolls Betrayal of the Second Era se prendevi solo il base. O come HEXploreIT in una delle due scatole iniziali in versione completa (base, espansione e campagna).

1) una gig box (non big ma gig, mi pare davvero colossale rispetto a quello che mi rappresenta sto gioco
2) una modalità estesa del gioco stesso
3) spendere oltre 200€ complessivi per Rogue Dungeon
4) spendere oltre 200€ complessivi per un gioco da tavolo, cosa che ho già fatto in passato ma che non ritengo più, per me, sensata
